Technisch is hij verwant aan zijn broers de Opel Grandland X en Peugeot 3008, maar de C5 Aircross heeft een heel ander karakter, waarbij een maximum aan rijcomfort de boventoon voert. Type auto en prijs De gloednieuwe Citroën C5 Aircross is het nieuwe vlaggenschip van Citroën. Vanaf begin 2019 staat hij in de showroom. Onderhuis is deze gezinsauto sterk verwant aan zijn broers de Opel Grandland X en de Peugeot 3008/5008. Maar hij heeft een ander uiterlijk en een ander karakter. De C5 Aircross palmt je namelijk in met zoveel mogelijk rijcomfort. Althans, dat belooft de Franse fabrikant. De C5 Aircross zit tussen praktische SUV’s in zoals de Skoda Kodiaq en premium SUV’s zoals de Volvo XC40. De goedkoopste versie kost € Dieselen is een stuk duurder. De goedkoopste diesel kost € Er zijn twee benzinemotoren en twee diesels, in beide gevallen goed voor 130 of 180 pk. Op de goedkoopste benzineversie na, zijn alle motoren te combineren een achttraps automaat. De 130 pk krachtige benzinemotor is een 1,2 liter driecilinder met turbo, bekend uit Peugeot 3008 en de Citroën C4 Cactus. De 180 pk benzineversie is een 1,6 liter viercilinder die we kennen uit de Peugeot 3008. De diesels zijn altijd viercilinders. De HDI 130 is een 1,5 liter viercilinder, de HDI 180 is een 2,0 liter viercilinder. Hoe rijdt de Citroën C5 Aircross Citroën belooft een maximum aan rijcomfort. En dat blijkt inderdaad te kloppen. De auto veert zeer comfortabel dankzij een speciaal veer/dempersysteem dat we al kennen van de Citroën C4 Cactus. Net als die auto heeft de C5 Aircross dempers die anders werken dan normale exemplaren. Er zit geen bumpstop in de demper die bij maximaal inveren de klap opvangt, maar twee hydraulische druklagers Die zorgen ervoor dat de klap veel zachter en gelijkmatiger wordt opgevangen. Citroën noemt het Progressive Hydraulic Cushion. Diepe kuilen en verkeersdrempels worden zeer vloeiend en zacht verwerkt. Je hebt als inzittende het gevoel hebt dat je op een biljartlaken rijdt in plaats van op bijvoorbeeld een slecht geplaveide klinkerweg. Een verademing als je het vergelijkt met veel moderne, stug afgeveerde auto's. In het kader van rijcomfort heeft Citroën ook extra aandacht besteed aan de geluidsisolatie. Het is heel stil aan boord. De besturing is keurig direct maar voelt wat afstandelijk. De auto betrekt je niet bepaalt in wat er zich onder de wielen afspeelt. De besturing zelf is aan de lichte kant, maar dat past wel weer bij het karakter van deze auto. De testauto is uitgerust met een handgeschakelde zesbak. Die voelt wat hakerig aan. Onder de motorkap van onze testauto hangt een 130 pk krachtige diesel. Die voelt lekker levendig en heeft erg veel trekkracht. Je kunt de C5 Aircross met deze krachtbron heerlijk schakellui rijden. Citroën C5 Aircross ergonomie en materiaalgebruik Voorin zit je als een vorst. Het dashboard ziet er mooi uit en alles is netjes afgewerkt. Het instrumentarium is digitaal uitgevoerd, wat betekent dat je uit diverse projecties kunt kiezen, waaronder ook diverse meters in combinatie met navigatie. Het 8-inch grote aanraakscherm zit mooi hoog. Je bedient er de radio, de navigatie, de kachel en nog wat kleinere zaken mee. Onze testauto had ook de beschikking over Apple Carplay en Android Auto. De knoppen voor de bediening van de voor- en achterruitverwarming zitten helaas wel aan de lage kant waardoor je je ogen van de weg moet halen om ze te bedienen. Wat de gebruikte materialen betreft alles waar je handen automatisch op vallen tijdens het rijden stuurwiel, pook, armsteun, deurhendel is opgetrokken uit zachte materialen. Prima dus, maar alle ander panelen zijn van loeihard plastic. Het doet wat afbreuk aan de comfort-beleving. Citroën C5 Aircross uitrusting en ruimte Vanaf het tweede uitrustingsniveau heeft de C5 Aircross standaard Advanced Comfort Seats. Dat zijn stoelen waar traagschuim in zit dat zich naar je lichaam vormt. Werkt prima, we kennen het al uit de C4 Cactus. Er zijn 5 uitrustingsniveau’s Live, Feel, Shine, Business en Business+. Op alle versies krijg je standaard het speciale veersysteem zie hoe rijdt de C5 Aircross, noodstop-assistent, actieve rijstrook-assistent, verkeersbordherkenning en een digitale radio. Een keurige standaarduitrusting dus. Maar vanaf het tweede uitrustingsniveau krijg je ook nog eens die luxe comfortstoelen standaard en heb je bijvoorbeeld ook parkeersensoren, actieve dode-hoek-bewaking en een achteruitrijcamera. Die versie is drie mille duurder dan de instapversie, maar dat is eigenlijk maar een bescheiden meerprijs als je ziet hoeveel meer auto er dan voor je neus staat. Dit is de versie die wij je daarom aanraden. Overigens zijn er 20 rijhulpsystemen en 6 connectiviteitsystemen verkrijgbaar. Achterin is plek voor drie volwassenen. Bij het instappen moet je even je hoofd intrekken om m niet te stoten tegen de dakrand. Maar als je eenmaal zit blijkt dat je veel beenruimte hebt en voldoende hoofdruimte. Er is bovendien geen middentunnel waardoor ook de middelste passagier prima zit. Alle achterpassagiers zitten trouwens op een eigen stoel. Die zijn individueel verschuifbaar, inklapbaar en instelbaar. Zo heb je met de stoelen op hun plek 580 tot 780 liter bagageruimte. En als je alles wegklapt zelfs liter, wat flink is. De bodem van de achterbak is verstelbaar. Je vindt er verder een 12-voltaansluiting en diverse ogen om lading mee vast te zetten. Conclusie een aanrader Citroën heeft veel moeite gestoken in het comfort van de C5 Aircross. En met succes. Het is, vooral dankzij de standaard gemonteerde, speciale vering een erg comfortabele gezinsauto met bovendien aardig wat binnenruimte en een flexibel interieur. De besturing voelt wat afstandelijk maar de trekkracht van de 130 pk dieselversie onze testauto is prima. Mocht je in de markt zijn voor de C5 Aircross dan raden we je aan in elk geval het tweede uitrustingsniveau te kiezen of nog luxer natuurlijk. Die kost drie mille meer dan het instapmodel, maar dan krijg je die fijne comfortstoelen en de nodige andere uitrusting. As one of the largest automotive groups in the world, PSA Peugeot Citroen Motors has been conspicuously absent from the Indian market. Peugeot of course did have a short and rather failed stint in India with the 309 in the late 90s due to an ill-fated partnership with Premier Automobiles and trouble with union workers. There were strong rumors a few years ago that Peugeot was looking to come back to India with a new partner and even set up a small manufacturing or assembly facility in India on which it would eventually grow. A few test cars were spotted too and everything seemed to be going smoothly for a 2013-2014 entry until once again an announcement stating otherwise was made. Now though, Peugeot and PSA’s entry into India has been confirmed in association with the Birla group with a tentative plan to have an assembly plant in Chennai. PSA or Peugeot Citroen Motors has a wide range of cars that are extremely popular in Europe and in China too with quirky designs and interesting interiors. From small city hatchbacks and very capable hot hatchbacks to crossovers, SUVs and MPVs, the two brands between themselves have enough of a range of products to entice the Indian automotive audiences. Peugeot 3008 Crossover SUV Citroen and Peugeot though both have a presence in nearby markets like Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia apart from a great presence in the Chinese markets. This means that the Indian plant, which will be based in Chennai can be used to manufacture a slightly premium hatchback, crossover or SUV for the time being with their more expensive cars being imported from markets like Thailand. The Chennai plant will be the same facility that has been used in the past by Mitsubishi to make the likes of the Lancer and the Cedia. Between Peugeot and Citroen, it would be easier for PSA to start from scratch and bring in the Citroen brand to India in order to avoid any rub-off from Peugeot’s previous association with India even though it was nearly two decades ago. The Citroen brand itself could decide to being in only the DS sub-brand with a Premium European’ brand angle to take on the likes of Volkswagen. The Citroen and DS brand will also work better in India as they are pretty unknown in this part of the world and also because both brands has some pretty stunning looking cars in terms of both exterior and interior design. DS4 Sportback In terms of what types of models or what segments to bring to India, PSA will have to adopt a top down strategy to make a mark on the Indian automotive scene. With an initial manufacturing capacity of 1,00,000 cars a year PSA can being in a mainstream crossover or SUV from the DS range like the DS4 Sportback to start off with alongside a premium sub 4-meter hatchback like the C3. The sharp looking C3 with its funky interiors could be the perfect car to go up against the likes of the Hyundai i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the premium hatchback market while the DS4 could take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta. From the Peugeot range, the 2008 and the 3008 are perfect for India with the 2008 going up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the 3008 targeting a slightly premium crossover like the Hyundai Tucson. Eventually, the smaller hatchbacks like the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 108 can also be manufactured in India for a larger share of the Indian automotive market.

With SUV sales continuing to pull ahead of more traditional types of family car, it comes as little surprise that the C5’s effective replacement – the C5 Aircross – should be an SUV along the lines of the smaller Citroen C3 C5 Aircross shares its underpinnings with the Peugeot 3008 and fights an army of rivals that include the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar, SEAT Ateca, Skoda Karoq, Ford Kuga, Vauxhall Grandland X and Kia best SUVs you can buy todayGiven how distinctive the C3 Aircross is, Citroen had the awkward task of making the C5 Aircross sufficiently individual to make it desirable, without simply making a larger version of the C3 Aircross. The result is a car that isn’t quite as eye-catching as the C3, with a more formulaic SUV shape. The Citroen offers little in the way of reward for an enthusiastic driver, with scant feel from its light steering, a reluctance to turn into corners with any zeal, and a tendency to lean if driven with doom and gloom clears somewhat when you find a long, fast, straight road, because cruising at motorway speeds is where the C5 Aircross is most at home.
